I am a medical sociologist with research interests in 1) political and policy determinants of sexual and gender minority health, 2) population health, inequity, and intersectionality, and 3) broad questions of community, wellbeing, and health. My previous work has been published in JAMA Network Open, SSM-Population Health, Transgender Health, Journal of Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities, Journal of Immigrant and Minority Health, Journal of Alzheimer's Disease, Social Problems, American Behavioral Scientist, Sociology of Race and Ethnicity, and Work and Occupations.
I received a B.A. in Political Science and Africana Studies and a Ph.D. in Sociology with concentrations in health disparities and race and ethnicity from Texas A&M University. I am currently an Assistant Professor of Sociology and the Associate Director of the Deep South Initiative for Advancing Sexual and Gender Minority Health (DASH) at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
